Botanical Interests Seeds, Cover Crop Fava Bean, Sweet Lorane Improved
Vicia faba. USDA organic. Cool season. 30-60 days. Sow in early spring or fall. Tall green stalks produce ample nitrogen for improved soil fertility. Dainty white flowers with black centers attract beneficial insects! Cold tolerant. Fava beans are dual purpose! As a cover crop, fava beans have one of the highest nitrogen-fixing rates, and the large, deep roots break up evenly heavy and compacted soil. For maximum nitrogen, harvest crop at peak bloom and work back into the soil to increase level of organic material. Fava beans are very cold hardy and can be sown in temperatures between 35 and 45 degrees F. Fast-growing cover crop, sow favas in early spring or fall. This packet sows approximately 40 square feet.
